There is something about safari life

that makes you forget all your sorrows..."

Karen Blixen

The Lost Society should have returned to South Africa last month and by now we should be busy introducing new guests to some of our favourite people and places. It’s hard to believe that just a couple of (very looooong) months ago, we were in Cape Town with guests, drinking fantastic wines in the sunshine and soaking up the atmosphere of the Mother City.

Currently grounded at home in England like flightless birds we are grateful beyond words for the last 10 years spent exploring Africa and beyond.  The thought of being free to do that again - feeling the heat of the African sun, the even warmer hospitality and seeing the incredible wildlife and breath-taking scenery - is what’s keeping our spirits up throughout this challenging time.

All of this longing has started us thinking about the reason we created The Lost Society in the first place; our passionate belief that everyone should have the opportunity to experience the magic of Africa at least once, regardless of their travel budget. All over the world, nurses and carers are risking their health daily and working under the saddest, most stressful circumstances. They don’t get paid the big bucks, the kind that easily affords a safari, but they do it anyway, every day for every one of us and for that we want to say thank you in the biggest way we can.

None of us know what our lives will look like when this is all over. It might not feel like it at the moment but there IS a big, magical world out there, full of wonderful people who are feeling as uncertain as we are, all looking forward with hope to a future when we can travel and be together again. One in every ten people in the world depends on tourism as their main source of income and they are missing us as much as we miss them.

To say THANK YOU and to #treatourNHS, we have come together with some of our dearest friends and partners in tourism to offer NHS staff the chance to win a fabulous two-week South African adventure. The lucky winner will receive a truly special self-drive B&B itinerary from Cape Town
to the West Coast, through the Cape Winelands, the Overberg, Route 62, Garden Route, and a two night authentic tented safari in the Eastern Cape.
